From Classroom to Career
Holly recently landed a job with Aramark, thanks to our Careers Lead. She was looking for work, and a teacher stepped in: "I speak to Mike a lot about career options, he came to me and said - do you want to have a look at this?"
She quickly moved up to a premium VIP role, which included serving at a big event in the new Everton Stadium. This professional work has really built her confidence. She even said it helped her secure her next big adventure: "I've just done my Camp America interview, so I'm really excited for that." Holly will be heading to the US right after her A-levels finish.
Five Years of Learning at the UTC
Holly didn't know she wanted to be a vet when she started at the UTC. She came in simply because she liked science: "I just came in knowing I like science, so I'll come to this school."
That changed in Year 10 when a teacher offered her a unique chance: "Doctor Dyer came over to me and said, "I've got a student who's doing an EPQ in veterinary science, do you want to come to Edinburgh on a trip to visit vets?'" That moment started her path to vet school.

Pathway Taster Sessions - Engineering and MeDeVet
On Saturday, 11th October, we hosted Engineering and MeDeVet Pathway Taster Sessions for aspiring Engineers, Doctors, Dentists, and Veterinarians.
We delved into medical ethics and genetic diseases, and students took part in an interactive demo on protein misfolding. In parallel, the engineering session that showed students how to create a Formula 1 steering wheel designs with Autodesk Fusion 360, inspired by our partner BAC's 2017 auction steering wheel.

Know Someone in Year 11 at Another School Interested in Life Sciences, Art, or Technology?
Saturday, 15th November at 9 am - Exclusive for Year 11 Students Only
Designed to help them explore the specialised pathways available at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School. This event is a chance for them to immerse themselves in the subjects that could shape their future. We’re excited to let you know that sessions are in high demand, and spaces are limited.
Session overview: During the session, they'll have the opportunity to explore one of three distinct pathways
Life Sciences: Discover this pathway with a hands-on microscopy workshop. Come and observe a range of samples – including live Daphnia – using both dissecting and light microscopes. This engaging session will give you the opportunity to develop practical skills, sharpen your observational techniques, and gain insight into the microscopic world that underpins biological science.
Art: Experience this pathway through a specialist Life Drawing session, designed to develop your observational skills and creative expression. You will explore proportion, form, and technique while working directly from a life model. This practical workshop provides a unique opportunity to refine your drawing skills, experiment with various approaches, and develop confidence in capturing the human form.
Technology: Step into the world of emerging technologies and discover the tools shaping tomorrow. This interactive session offers the chance to explore three exciting areas:
- AI Prompt Engineering
- Programming with Purpose (including drone programming)
- AR/VR – Digital Immersion
We will set up three interactive areas across two rooms, giving participants the opportunity to explore each theme hands-on. The session introduces key concepts in computer science, provides practical applications aligned with AAQ, and opens discussion around T-Levels and the ethical implications of emerging technologies. Differentiation will be embedded throughout.
Please share this link with them to register.

Sickness procedure
From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students should not contact home themselves when they are unwell; staff will call parents if needed.
