2025 Creative, Digital and Tech round-up

As we approach the end of the year, here’s our round up of the latest creative and digital sector news from across the Liverpool City region, highlighting the exciting opportunities that students can get involved in over the coming years. The city region continues to develop and thrive, bringing stacks of creative opportunities to young people.

Discover! Creative Careers Programme


To continue driving innovation and creative growth in the Liverpool City Region, the Government's Creative Industries Sector Plan has announced a £380 million investment package – The Discover! Creative Careers Programme to increase creative careers for young people aged 13-17.

The campaign has been co-created and co-delivered with trade body CreativeUK and skills provider ScreenSkills. It’ll be supported by big names like Channel 4, Netflix, Co-op Live to support young people with work work experience, increase awareness and provide more opportunity in the creative sector across the city region.

 

The Game Assembly (TGA) is coming to Liverpool


For students aspiring a gaming career, The Game Assembly has arrived in Liverpool and is one of the world’s leading game development schools where students will be creating games and learn how to sharpen their gaming skills.

TGA is offering courses such as Game Programming, Level Design and Game Art to students so they’ll be job-ready. Each course runs full-time for two years and students will have the opportunity to build industry connections.

Per-Anders Ring, TGA head of business and product says, “Liverpool is a growing gaming city with a strong industry, making it the perfect location for our expansion."

 

Creative Cities Convention is back


Hosting its eighth annual event in May 2026, the Creative Cities Convention (CCC) will be bringing the UK’s leading screen-sector conference to Liverpool, Camp & Furnace. It is the only event dedicated to professionals in the digital sector outside London, highlighting the creative potential of Liverpool.

With over 65 speakers and 400 delegates, attendees will have the exciting opportunity to hear from leading broadcasters, producers and creative innovators to develop insight into the industry. CCC celebrates regional production, encourages collaboration and a chance to connect with other content creators.

 

Liverpool City Council delivers Music Industry Development Programme


Since the Music Industry Development Programme launched in 2020 with investment from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Strategic Investment Fund (SIF), our regional music sector continues to develop and grow.

88 local businesses have been supported, over 3,000 young people are engaging in careers advice across the Liverpool City Region and 52 paid traineeships have been offered in places like Ditto Music and Sentric since the £2 million investment.

Councillor Mike Wharton, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Business, Investment and Trade, says: “We’re creating opportunities for the next generation, making sure that our area isn’t just a place with a rich history, but a global leader in the music of the future.”

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)

Over £250 million has been invested in JLR’s new production lines and machinery at their factory in Merseyside. It’s part of JLR’s commitment to its Reimagine strategy to electrify all its brands by 2030 to achieve carbon net zero across their products and operations in 2039.

With this ambition, they’ve introduced JLR’s Future Skills Programme where they will invest £20 million a year for employees to gain skills in new systems, technologies and processes to develop the next generation in engineering and manufacturing.
