Year 9: The Ignite Programme

Our unique Ignite Programme blends core academic standards with immersive, hands-on creative projects, specifically designed for gifted and talented students.

• Core Foundations: Build a strong academic baseline in core subjects, including English, Mathematics, and Science.

Year 10: Key Stage 4 Creative & Digital Specialisms

If you are joining us in Year 10, it is time to tailor your education around your passions and develop industry-standard technical skills.

• Specialised Pathways: Choose from creative combinations including Graphics, Lens-Based Media, 3D Design, and Digital Information Technology (DIT).
• Project-Based Learning: Master software and concepts through practical, portfolio-building projects rather than purely theoretical textbook work.
• Industry Edge: Gain qualifications, technical mastery, and professional experience that give you a distinct advantage for future degree apprenticeships, university courses, or creative careers.

The Baltic Research Institute (BRI) & Student-Led Publishing

We go far beyond standard GCSE options by embedding the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) into Key Stage 4. This feeds directly into The Baltic Research Institute (BRI) – the only student-led research institute and publication based within a school in the UK.

As a Studio student, you won't just study digital culture; you will create original research and technology. You will:

• Work alongside digital experts and university academics on real-world challenges – from emerging AI technologies to user experience (UX) design.
• Write up, peer-review, and publish your findings in the peer-reviewed BRI Journal.
• Graduate from Key Stage 4 as a published researcher or editor by age 14 or 15.

Learning at The Studio means working with the same tools, software, and hardware used by professional game studios, media agencies, and tech firms:

• Facilities: Work inside high-tech creative suites equipped with the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite, high-spec workstations, and digital prototyping equipment.

• Industry Days: The regular timetable drops where you spend the whole day working directly with top industry professionals. Myth: "You need a portfolio or top grades to get in."

The Reality: We are a non-selective school. We do not filter applicants by entrance exams or portfolio submissions. We operate on passion and potential. If you want a future in code, design, media, or digital tech and are ready to work hard, you belong here.

Myth: "The Studio is a 'special' school."

The Reality: We are a mainstream studio school. Because we offer smaller class sizes, a close-knit feel, and a calm, mature working environment, families sometimes mistake us for a special educational needs school. While we provide exceptional, industry-leading SEND and inclusion support, we are a mainstream academy where creative, diverse learners thrive.

Myth: "Changing schools at Year 9 or 10 is disruptive."

The Reality: Moving schools provides a powerful fresh start. Because everyone joins us new at Key Stage 4, established cliques don't exist. Starting together resets social dynamics, removes friction, and re-engages students with subjects they genuinely care about.
