The Studio celebrates outstanding GCSE results
The Studio specialises in education focused on art and design, graphic design, lens-based media and computer science, alongside core academic subjects. Our students benefit from close links with employers and industry-informed teaching that prepares them for careers in these creative and digital fields.
In this year’s GCSE results, Studio students have again performed strongly in core subjects, with 79% gaining a grade between 9 and 4 in English, alongside 75% for a 9-4 in Maths and 45% awarded a 7 or above in Further Maths.
Specialisms
Specialist subjects also demonstrated the keen interest of students, with 100% of Sociology students awarded a 4 or above (and 33% at 7+) and 70% achieving 4 or above in Computer Science. Level 2 Engineering students also saw a 78% pass rate, with 33% awarded a Distinction for their work. In Art, 40% of students also scored a 7 or above.
Principal Jill Davies says: “Results from our Studio students are once again filling me with joy – they’re absolutely phenomenal. Not just in our specialisms – we’ve picked up great results in art and graphic design, lens-based media and computer science, but also in those subjects – English, Maths and Science – that remain really important. To have that full, complete suite of good qualifications means that there's doors open for all of our students, and that's what we're here for…”
Student successes
Finlay got 7s or above in all of his subjects, including 9s in Maths and Computer Science. He said: “It was a great choice to move to the Studio in Year 10. Thank you to my teachers for your support!”
Abdelrahman was awarded three 9s, four 8s and two 7s and has accepted an offer from our sister school, Life Sciences UTC, to study Biology, Chemistry and Maths. “I’ve worked really hard to achieve the grades I’ve got. Thank you to Miss Alison and Miss Connolly for your continued support.”
Ruby was awarded a D2 in Engineering Design, 7s in Maths and Art and Design, and 6s in both English Language and Literature. She’s returning to the Studio for Sixth Form, taking the next step towards reaching her aspiration of becoming a Motorsport Mechanical Engineer.
Principal Jill Davies says: “For students coming back in September, there are so many opportunities – we get the best results in art, graphics and photography for A Level, but also we're introducing new qualifications in Cyber and AI and this is what the world needs moving forward – we need to offer qualifications that are ready for the future world of work. The employment market tells us that we need people who are qualified in AI and cyber security, so they're the qualifications that we're offering this year.”
