Ford Philanthropy Partnership

Partnering for the Future: Northern Schools Trust & Ford Philanthropy

At The Studio and Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, we aren’t just teaching the curriculum; we’re preparing you for the world of work. Our partnership with Ford Philanthropy brings together industry giants and the next generation of engineers, data scientists, and digital innovators.

By bridging the gap between the classroom and the career, we are creating direct pathways into high-growth sectors like advanced manufacturing and digital technology.

Our Mission: Empowering Liverpool’s Future Workforce

Everything we do is about providing opportunity and excellence. Through our collaboration, we are:

  • Closing the Digital Divide: We give students from all backgrounds access to elite tech - from AR/VR and AI to 3D printing.

  • Contextualising Learning: We go beyond textbooks. Our students use authentic Ford manufacturing data and Electric Vehicle (EV) physics to master core STEM subjects.

  • Fostering Industry Readiness: Through project-based learning and direct mentorship from industry pros, you’ll develop the "Future of Work" skills that employers actually want.

The Core Project Strands

Data Science & Lean Manufacturing

Don't just look at numbers – use them. Students analyse real industrial data to build interactive dashboards, discovering how data-driven decisions power efficiency in modern factories.

Advanced Manufacturing & 3D Printing

Step into our dedicated Additive Manufacturing suite. Here, you’ll design and prototype components using industry-standard CAD software, preparing you for the "Smart Factories" of tomorrow.

The Physics of Mobility

We’ve integrated the science of the future into your GCSEs and A-levels. From battery chemistry to energy transfer, you’ll see exactly how your Physics studies apply to the global mobility industry.

Innovation through EPQs

Lead your own research in cutting-edge fields like Artificial Intelligence and Vision Systems. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is your chance to earn UCAS points while proving you can manage high-level projects.

A Collaborative Ecosystem

Our students succeed because they are part of a massive professional network:

Project Timeline & Milestones (2025–2027)

Our roadmap for high-impact learning:

  • Dec 2025 – Jan 2026: Launch of our new Additive Manufacturing suite.

  • Feb – May 2026: Exploring sustainable materials and smart manufacturing plans.

  • Jun – Sept 2026: Wind tunnel testing and the kick-off of student EPQ research.

  • Oct 2026 – Jan 2027: AI integration in inventory and final project showcases.

Step into the future of technical training with our immersive AR walkthrough

At The Studio, we prepare our students for success in a digital world by blending cutting-edge innovation with hands-on experience. This interactive tour allows you to explore our state-of-the-art facilities and get to grips with our industry-standard workshop machinery directly from your screen.

Designed to bridge the gap between digital theory and practical engineering, the tour guides you through every piece of kit - covering essential operational protocols and rigorous Health and Safety procedures. We’ve also integrated live-action demonstrations so you can see exactly how these technologies function in a real-world manufacturing environment.

This project is the result of our close collaboration with industry partners Julian Todd and Alex Lennon at DoES Liverpool. We are also proud to showcase the talent of our own community; one of our placement students played a vital role in bringing this digital experience to life.

See how we’re empowering the next generation of engineers and innovators.
