What will I study?
The Extended Diploma requires you to complete a total of thirteen units:
- 8 Mandatory Units
- 5 Optional Units
What kind of placements can I do on this course?
You can gain practical experience in a variety of settings:
- Hospitals
- Care homes
- Community care services
- Supported living facilities
- Schools
Note: To apply for placements, you will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and must provide official photo ID (such as a passport).
What are the expectations on work placement?
You're expected to maintain professional conduct and adhere to standards of practice:
- Punctuality: Be on time for every single shift. It's advisable to do a practice run of the journey to ensure you know exactly how long it takes.
- Professional Manner:
- Maintain a polite and courteous manner.
- Remember you are there to learn; ask questions and get involved when requested.
- You are representing the college and acting as an employee in a professional workplace.
- Uniform and Appearance: Adhere to standards regarding:
- Uniform
- Personal appearance (hair, nails, hygiene)
- Reflective Practice: You must keep a reflective journal of your placement experiences. This is an essential component for passing the course.

Are there any exams in Health and Social Care?
Yes, there are four exams which cover the following units:
Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development
Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care
Unit 3: Anatomy and Physiology
Unit 4: Enquiries into Current Research
